There was a time in April when I was alone at home for weeks. I had to step it up and get myself cookin'! One of my biggest flaws? Laziness! And no, I'm not proud of it.....I thought this was a great chance to make things I like, and try to cook food I've never tried before! Did I ever mention I absolutely LOVEJapanese food?? Well,
there are so many things I have never tried before! One of them is Gobo! It's called burdock root. It has a lot of fiber, which is great for my body. Basically, I made Kinpira Gobo, which has mostly thin long matchstick slices of gobo inside mashed potato(with corn starch), along with carrots(you can see how it looks in the picture above). It doesn't look that bad, right? I did a decent job cooking it. In case anyone is curious, I got the recipe online. It's pretty crazy how you can find anything online these days.

I got a cooking apron from my friend a while ago, and I finally found the chance to use it! Yay!
It was super hot that night! I was soaked in sweat from head to toe!! This is yet another proof of my obsession with My Melody.
A closer look at the My Melody pattern *_____* It was very useful as it blocked all the splashes from the pan or wok...and I remember freaking over the spots on my apron, but isn't that the point? To block all the oil splash? I'm just silly.
Potatoes~ I love potatoes! Lovely potatoes getting ready to get boiled..
I'm well prepared to mash the potatoes with my hands since I don't have a potato masher..
Waiting for the potatoes to boil~ lalala
All mashed up! I didn't have good equipment, so they don't look too mashed up. I had to borrow corn starch from my uncle...then I combined them!
Wala! They become one! Easy for shaping.
Carrot and Gobo(or burdock root)! I broke it up into 4 pieces because it was just way too long. I'm so glad I live in an Asian area! Otherwise, I wouldn't be able to buy this!
It was a hassle to cut them...They were harder than anything I've cut before. It took a while to cut up everything. After cutting, I had to soak them, then drain, soak again, drain, until the water is clear.
This is the best I can do...hahaha
How does it look? If not good, I will blame the kitchen lighting!
By this time, I had already cut up the gobo into tinier pieces so I can put them inside potato pancakes~ Here it is...sizzling!
I made some mushroom too! I looove these mushrooms, they absorb whatever flavor you add to it! I love the texture of it too! I don't remember the name!! But I definitely remember the packaging, so if I see it again, I will get the name. I think they're organic too. This was taken after they were almost all gone...so I cooked a good amount. They look really salty, but they're really just right.
They don't look too good here...but they're not bad. You really gotta chew on them with all that fiber! But they're crunchy!
I really enjoyed eating the Kinpira Gobo! Maybe since I'm the one who made it, it makes me kind of biased.

Of course, that's not all I had for dinner that night... I had to make other things to really fill myself up. I had an easier time making Kinpira Gobo (despite the tiring cutting) than Okonomiyaki, which is absolutely delicious!
Ooh, looks super yummy, haha~! ^3^

DeleteI'm a food addict too! I recently went to Korea and I had so much authentic Korean food. I had Japanese food whilst I was there too. Japanese + Korean food are top notch.
ReplyDeleteWhat camera are you using? It takes amazing photos. I need a camera like that but it's going to be expensive. Guess I need to save up a lot.
You're so lucky to have gone to Korea! I'm so jealous you got to eat all the good food. I'm using Canon 60D. Yea, but you can start out with a regular digital camera but with a good zooming lens and it'll still do a good job.
